How long does training take before my dog can join his first competition and is there a minimum age to enter such agility competitions?
Standard rule by SKC (Singapore Kennel Club) is minimum 12 mths of age on competition date of agility trial. It really depends on the learning ability of your dog, how enjoyable & consistence your training is, practice make perfect. Agility is supposed to be fun & play time for the dog. You can’t force your dog thru obstacles or speed thru the learning process; else it will become an obstacle for you eventually just to get your dog to trust you again. Winning will come later when he enjoys it. On average, 10 weeks of proper consistence training & conditioning should be able to get ready for the ring.
